Chunking

Breaking difficult music into small, manageable sections.

In plain English

Chunking isolates a short passage, movement, rhythm, or transition so you can solve one clear problem before reconnecting it to the surrounding music.

Try or listen for this

Practise only the two beats around a difficult chord change, then add one beat on either side.

Why it matters

Smaller sections reduce overload, make repetition more accurate, and reveal exactly where a problem begins.
