Practice Planning

Useful Reflection

A useful reflection is a message to your future self. It should give you a place to begin next time.

What is it?

Useful reflection means writing down what changed, what stayed unstable, and what you should try first next time. It is not a diary entry or a self-judgement. It is practical memory.

Why musicians get this wrong

Reflections like "I did well" or "try harder" feel honest, but they do not help tomorrow. A better reflection names the condition, cue, tempo, section, or experiment that made a difference.

Try this today

  1. Write one thing that improved.
  2. Write one thing that still needs attention.
  3. Write the first thing you should do next time.

Reflection question

If you opened PracticePad tomorrow, what note would make the next session easier to start?
